The band dissolved in 1995, and since then, Kyuss members have been to form or play in several notable bands including , , , , , , , , , , and . KyussIn November 2010, three former members of the band (less Homme, who refused to participate) met under the adapted blister "" for one with plans to record a new album at some point. A federal lawsuit filed later by Homme resulted in Oliveri leaving the band in March 2012, and five months later a court ruled that García and Bjork were not allowed to publish audio recordings under Kyuss Lives! Rincon. As a result, they changed their name to . ContentsHistory[]As Katzenjammer and Sons of Kyuss (1987–1991)[ ] The band formed in 1987 attacking under the name of Katzenjammer (Slangword German for "Hangover" [archaic], literally "moaning of a cat") before finally deciding on the Kyuss Sons. Brant Bjork selected the name of the found in the . In 1989 the band recorded its EP debut, which was its only version to present Chris Cockrell in bass. After self-relinding the EP in 1990, the band recruited – which had previously played second guitar in Katzenjammer – to replace Cockrell in bass, and shorten his name to Kyuss. KatzenjammerSons of KyussAs Kyuss (1991–1995)[ ] Kyuss' first line consisted of vocalist, guitarist, bass player and drummer. The band gradually built a local following in Palm Desert, California and was often held at parties in and around isolated cities of 's desert areas. These improvised and predominantly outdoor spectacles, locally called "parts of generators", consisted of small crowds of people, beer drinks and the use of gas generators to provide electricity for the equipment. Homme commented that playing in the desert "was the configuration factor for the band" pointing out that "there are no clubs here, so you can only play for free. If people don't like you, they'll tell you. You can't suck." The band signed with the independent label, which released its debut album in September 1991. Several songs from the album were recorded versions of which appeared in the Sons of Kyuss EP. The album sales were lazy, although the band was quickly making a name for itself as a live act. The guitarist Josh Homme soon acquired a reputation for his unique guitar playing style, and his convention playing electric guitars through bass guitar amplifiers to create a bas-heavy sound. In 1992, the band, together with the new producer, began working on his next album. Goss understood the band, and was able to accurately capture his live sound in the studio. Released in June of that year, the album was critically acclaimed and today is widely regarded as a pioneer record. At the end of 1993, they were invited to open nine dates to visit Australia. Comparisons to stone rock godfathers became common, although Homme claimed to have little knowledge of the band at that time but Bjork claimed that he and Oliveri were greatly influenced by the British group. Oliveri left the band after the album was finished and, he had approached joining Kyuss five to six months earlier during a west coast tour with , made his debut at the Blues launch party for the Red Sun. Sample of "Thee Ol' Boozeroony" by . Trouble playing this file? Look. The band was soon signed with the main label after Dali Records hit financial problems and was bought by Elektra. In 1994, they would release their first album of main labels, Kyuss himself. Originally it was intended to be entitled Pools of Mercury, the album commonly became known to fans as . Between the record company and the shining group, it would take a whole year for the album recorded in 1993 to be released. Once again produced by Chris Goss, he received critical acclaim and, musically, showed a much more psychedelic and mature sound. However, personal problems arose and the drummer Brant Bjork left the band after completing the recording sessions. Bjork cited his extreme contempt for the tour, in particular gang relationship problems that develop for long periods on the road. It was replaced by , which had previously played with Reeder in the band across the river during the mid 80s. In July 1995, they released their fourth and last album, . A video was made for ", the only official single on the album. The album was not as commercially successful as Sky Valley, receiving mixed opinions. Kyuss broke up during the last summer of 1995. After the break-up of the band in 1995, there had been frequent and persistent speculation among fans about the possibility of a Kyuss meeting. When asked at the end of 2004 about whether the band was to rejoin, Homme responded that this was unlikely to happen in the near future. However, on December 20, 2005, García made a guest appearance on stage with Queens of the Stone Age during his nucleus in Los Angeles. They did three Kyuss songs together: "Thumb", "Hurricane" and "Supa Scoopa and Mighty Scoop". The band has reportedly received numerous offers to re-form, all of which have been turned down: "The offers come all the time. They are becoming more and more expensive, and more elaborate. Money is crazy, but I've never been tempted – I don't really care about money, I've never done it. That's not what KYUSS was trying, so to end our sentence with that would be blasphemy. KYUSS fans are so damn rad, they're shit, but for me, meetings aren't necessary. It's not what it was, it's what it is, and KYUSS was a really magical thing – and if you weren't there, well, you weren't. That's the luck of the draw. I don't feel the urge to do it for someone who didn't have the chance to see us, or just didn't take the chance to see us. I'll let other groups alter their great legacy. KYUSS has such a big story that it would be a total mistake. I like that no one saw KYUSS, and it was largely misunderstood. That sounds like a legend that forms me. I am very proud of it to rub my dick on it."— Josh Homme a , May 2007"The offers come all the time. They are becoming more and more expensive, and more elaborate. Reeder also pointed out that "I would do it for free beer again." Post-breakup (1996–present)[] Shortly after the break, Homme walked as a rhythm guitarist with and started working on the current recording series. In December 1997, an article with three Kyuss songs was published (the cover "Into the Void", "Fatso Forgotso", and "Flip the Phase") and three Queens of the Stone Age songs (", "Born to Hula" and "Spiders & Vinegaroons"). Homme and Hernandez formed in 1998, and they recruited Oliveri as a bass player after the completion of their debut album. Hernandez later played with , and , while Oliveri formed the band , called after the only song of Kyuss accredited only (words and music) to him. Drummer continued to form the band, recorded and played with and Mondo Generator, and has recorded several solo albums. John García became fit, although the band was short-lived and released only one EP, before disbanding in September 1997. He was also briefly associated with the band. In 1998, he started working with the band, recording an EP, a LP and an unpublished album. At the same time he started working with the band Brother, having released three LP albums and a live album to date. Garcia's been working more recently on a solo album. In 1997, Homme, Bjork and Oliveri recorded three songs together ("13th Floor", "Simple Exploding Man", "Cocaine Rodeo") for the debut album by Mondo Generator, released in 2000. Also with García and Chris Goss on a track, the songs are considered by many fans as Kyuss' final recordings. In 2000, a compilation album, was released. The album is a collection of singles from the band, as well as B-sides and live material. Although Kyuss left some "rries," many of them were released in Many Thanks, and other band releases seem unlikely. The singer John García said in a 2005 interview: "There are so many titleless songs that have never been heard, that I have in my little drag space on my bed. I don't see those songs coming out at any time in the near future. They're all too busy doing things like that. It's a job to come back and listen to it, and then if you want to record them. They're all too busy doing things like that. It's a job to come back and listen to it, and then if you want to record them. "In 2010, a European tour "John García plays Kyuss" was announced. In June 2010, former members of Kyuss Nick Oliveri and Brant Bjork joined García on stage to perform "Green Machine" and "Gardenia" during an appearance led by "Garcia Plays Kyuss" in , France, and also appeared on stage with García in other concerts on the tour. In November 2010, García, Oliveri and Bjork announced plans to spin under the "" washer with guitarist Bruno Fevery. In reference to the new name of the band, García said that "there will never be a Kyuss without " and that "waitly in the future he and I can meet and write something." The group went to Europe, Australasia and North and South America. The band then announced plans to record a new studio album for a 2012 summer release in addition to a live album. However, in March 2012, it was revealed that Josh Homme, after persuading the bassist Scott Reeder to support him, had filed a federal lawsuit against John García and Brant Bjork claiming "brand violation and consumer fraud" on the use of the name Kyuss even though Brant Bjork had originally created the name. Nick Oliveri left Kyuss later that month after it was revealed that Garcia and Bjork had tried to take control of the Kyuss brand. In August 2012, the courts ruled that García and Bjork could not publish any recording, study or life under Kyuss Lives. Rincon. As long as they were allowed to continue using the live show monitor (always unlike the current band logo, Lives! is written in the same size and next to the word Kyuss to avoid confusion), the judge stated that they may face problems in the future and that "it may be in the best interest of the Defendants to begin re-marking under a new name". On November 29, 2012, it was announced that Kyuss Lives! had changed its name to . In July 2020, Homme declared that he was open to the possibility of participating in a Kyuss meeting. "(T)here have been times I thought (Kyuss) can't end that way, and the only real way to finish it properly now would be to play," he said. "And because they perverted the puncture and hit the wing of this beautiful dragon that is an ice sculpture, and the only way to put the shit wing back would be (play again).
