How should labels be removed from anal skin? A skin label is a noncancerous growth of leftover skin. Skin tags that form around the anus or rectum are called anal skin tags. Anal skin labels are typically small, measuring a few millimeters or less. They can be the same color as the skin or something darker. They often go unnoticed or do not cause problems and can be left alone. On the other hand, some people may want to retire for cosmetic reasons, because they get in the way, cause sensitivity, or bite. But anal skin labels should only be removed by a dermatologist or other qualified medical professional. In this article, we explore why skin tags develop around the anus and how a doctor can diagnose and remove them. We also describe steps a person can take to prevent them from forming. Trying to remove the labels from the anal skin at home can cause pain and other complications, and removal methods at home are not tested safe for skin labels in this sensitive area. In addition, not all anal skin labels should be removed, even by a professional. Sometimes there is a risk of injury or infection due to proximity to bacteria in the feces. Before someone is acquitted, they must discuss the risks and benefits with a doctor. Some more dangerous growths, such as , may look like anal skin tags, and therefore it is essential to get any unusual growth reviewed by a doctor. Labels can grow almost anywhere in the skin. Often the cause is not clear, but some people may be genetically prone to them. When skin tags are formed around the anus, one or more of the following factors are usually involved: When a label is easily visible, a doctor can diagnose it with a physical exam and, if necessary, discuss removal options. A doctor may need to perform a digital rectangle exam to determine if there is any growth in less visible areas. The doctor will insert a lubricated finger and glove into the rectum. It may be necessary to examine the inside of the rectum visually for growths. This is done in a procedure called anoscopia, where a doctor places a small reach right within the anus and uses a light tube to see inside the rectum. Most people feel little or no trouble. When a doctor needs to go deeper into the lower digestive tract, he can perform a sigmoidoscopia. This involves using a thin and flexible tube with a light and camera to see inside the rectum and the bottom of the colon. A sigmoidoscopy is not always required after diagnosis of a skin label. A doctor will do it only when I suspect a person has growths or polyps in the intestine. It may not be safe or necessary to remove an anal skin label. A doctor will describe the risks and determine the best course of action. Some small skin tags can be removed without any incision. A doctor may freeze skin labels using liquid nitrogen. Most tags fall within a few days. This procedure is known as cryotherapy. Or, a doctor can use a laser to kill the tissue, causing the skin label to collapse slowly. Certain skin labels can be carefully cut with surgical scissors, but the larger labels may require a more intricate removal and points. Doctors tend not to recommend this, however, because stool bacteria can easily infect a healing incision. If an anal label with liquid nitrogen, laser or scissors is removed, most people can return home the same day and resume light activity the next day. The doctor may advise against intense exercise for several days. As healthy skin, it may be necessary to clean the anal area thoroughly after each bowel movement. A doctor may recommend the use of towels or medical cleaners, as well as creams that promote healing and prevent infection. A person is often advised to take stool softeners and drink plenty of fluids, so bowel movements are easy to pass. Sitz baths can also be relaxing and help the skin heal. People should not try to remove an anal skin label at home. This can lead to bleeding, pain and infection. If a person suspects that he or she has an anal skin label, he or she should see a doctor, who may rule out the presence of or other condition. It is not always possible to prevent skin labels from developing. However, the following tips can help reduce your occurrence: Anal skin tags are not usually a cause for concern, and some may be eliminated. People should consult a doctor for a proper diagnosis. If a skin anal label is causing discomfort, a doctor may discuss appropriate removal options. Last medical review on 11 May 2018Most recent newsRelated coverage
